As many of you might know, India is currently facing an extreme
shortage of faculty in engineering colleges. Over the last 7 years,
over 500 new engineering colleges have opened. Many of these new
engineering colleges have only about 25% of the faculty they actually
need.
In an effort to address this shortage, the IITs & IISc have started
video taping many of their lectures. They already have over 4000 hrs
of lectures videotaped and digitized. This whole effort is funded by
the Indian Government. More details can be found at
http://www.nptel.iitm.ac.in/
Google is working with them to distribute these videos everywhere.
They have just started uploading the videos, but you can see what is
already up at http://www.youtube.com/nptelhrd. The folks at at
IIT/IISc are hoping to use this channel as one of the significant
lecture sources in the coming semester.
